It’s the beginning of the new year, and you probably have a lot of goals and dreams that you want to achieve this year.
It’s tempting to think and place your hope in your talents, a mentor or sponsor, your career, your health, your wealth or the wealth of your family, political parties, and your social standing.

Not that there is anything wrong with those people or things. However, they are not always reliable. They can and will fail you at some point.
And that can be frustrating when you find yourself in a bind or a problematic situation. All of a sudden, what you were banking on fails to act in the manner you expected.
There was a time in my life I thought studying hard and my intelligence would see me through difficult times. I also just assumed that having a good family( nuclear and extended) would always be a soft cushion to land on.
But there came a time when I found myself all alone in the valley of despair. I struggled for a long time until I returned to the source of my hope.
The best source of hope is God. He who is infinite knows everything and what’s best for me. I have learnt that he is dependable even in those trying times when things seem not to be going so well.
It is often easy to have hope when everything is going well and according to plan. But the moment things go haywire. My default setting is to start looking elsewhere for answers.
I want to be like Job in the Old Testament, who lost everything yet still trusted God. How could he do that? I believe he had already made a daily habit of trusting God for everything.
Another classic example is the three friends of Daniel who chose to be thrown into the furnace because they believed in God no matter what the consequences were, good or bad.
I know challenges will come up this year, but I will place my hope in God. Because I know He is working things out for my good.
